CHRISTIAN BREAKING NEWS: Who is Mojdeh Fallahi? Christian Woman Convert Jailed without Charges in Iran since September 9, 2024 [#MojdehFallahi]
A Christian woman who has been jailed without charges in Iran since September 9 wept uncontrollably during her mother’s 5-minute visit on Monday (September 30), according to a relative.
Mojdeh Falahi, 36, an Islam convert, was arrested by the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps when she went to the prosecutor’s office in Shiraz at the request of a Christian who had been jailed the day before and informed her he needed documentation to be released.
Falahi wept uncontrollably during her mother’s second visit on Monday, and her family is concerned about mistreatment by authorities and her confinement conditions, according to Falahi’s brother-in-law, Sam Khosravi.
Falahi, a hairdresser, has been sent to the Pelak-e 100 Detention Center, which is managed by Iran’s Ministry of Intelligence, according to Khosravi.
Though no charges have been filed against Falahi, her family believes intelligence officers are interrogating her extensively for information about other Christians.
Relatives are particularly concerned because Falahi’s arrest has lasted more than 10 days, which is rare for investigations involving Christian women, according to Khosravi.
Relatives are also perplexed by her detention because she is not a church leader and is unlikely to know much about other Christians, according to Khosravi.
She has not been granted access to a lawyer.
Before Monday, the family went to the prosecutor’s office multiple times to request a visit, but they were only allowed to speak with Falahi briefly over the phone and see her in person for 3 minutes.
Iranian officials offered extended visitation time to Falahi’s family members, including her mother, in exchange for encouraging her to provide more information, Khosravi added, but the family declined.
According to Khosravi, Falahi’s relatives have been unable to determine the exact conditions of her confinement because she is unable to speak openly during their visits.
According to Khosravi, Falahi’s relatives are particularly concerned that Iranian officials are brutalizing her in such a way that she would be psychologically damaged for life.
He is aware with the Iranian government’s treatment of imprisoned converts because he was imprisoned for his beliefs, along with his wife and sister-in-law, Falahi’s older siblings.
In July 2019, Ministry of Intelligence agents arrested Khosravi in Bushehr, along with his wife, Maryam Falahi, his brother Sasan and wife Marjan Falahi, and 4 others during raids on house churches and converts from Islam.
The government jailed 8 converts in total, and all but one were convicted of “propaganda against the state.”
They got a variety of punishments, including prison time, fines, expulsion from Bushehr, and disqualification from certain forms of employment.
Maryam Falahi, a nurse, was barred from working at any national hospital.
The most upsetting was an Iranian court’s decision in September 2020 to terminate Khosravi Falahi’s custody of their adopted daughter, Lydia, because they were Christians, he added.
The Iranian government deemed Lydia, who was of unknown origin, to be Muslim.
Khosravi stated that the primary goal of detention is not usually punishment or information gathering, but rather to break a prisoner at such a fundamental level that they are permanently shattered.
The goal is to force them to abandon their beliefs or to instill terror in other converts to Islam.
Khosravi claimed that a fellow Christian had been so mistreated that she refused to visit church places even years after her release.
Another Christian, forced to listen to the cries of a woman wailing in a nearby cell, claimed that guards convinced him that it was his wife who was being raped on multiple occasions.
Falahi’s mother has been the most affected by his captivity.
Khosravi is hiding from Iranian authorities.
