Chosen: WorldVision is doing something they have “never done before” to empower kids – Kids can now choose their sponsor [#WorldVision #NeverDoneBefore #EmpowerKids]

World Vision is doing something they have “never done before” to empower kids in extreme poverty across the world.

For the past 70 years, sponsors have picked the child they want to support, but the global Christian organization based in the United States is launching a new initiative so kids can now choose their sponsor in a program called “Chosen.”

“We were looking for something that could cut through the clutter of the business of life…and we’re hoping that this will help. Chosen puts the power to choose in a child’s hand, and while it’s simple, it’s a very powerful switch.”
– World Vision president Edgar Sandoval

Rev. Han Chung-Ryeol, Chinese pastor of Korean descent shared his faith with 1,000+ North Koreans in Hermit Kingdom before his assassination [#ChinesePastor #NorthKorea #HermitKingdom]

A pastor on the China-North Korea border shared his faith with at least 1,000 North Koreans in the Hermit Kingdom before he was assassinated in 2016, a defector claims.

Rev. Han Chung-Ryeol, a Chinese pastor of Korean descent, who ministered on the border town of Changbai since the early 1990s, was reportedly on Pyongyang’s most-wanted list as early as 2003 for his faith-based charitable work.

Rev. Han Chung-Ryeol fed and sheltered thousands of North Koreans over the years — many of whom had fled the famine-stricken country in search of food and jobs.

One of them, Sang-chul, shared his story in a short documentary from The Voice of the Martyrs, as a way to encourage believers around the world to participate in the International Day of Prayer for the Persecuted Church on Sunday, Nov. 3, 2019.

Christian health care organization, Samaritan Ministries asks Latter-day Saint Ryan Baker to rethink his beliefs or leave [#ChristianHealthCare #SamaritanMinistries #LatterDaySaints]

Latter-day Saint Ryan Baker has been a member of Samaritan Ministries for about two years. Just a few days ago, the Christian health care organization told him he would need to rethink his beliefs or leave.

“As a community of Christians who help other Christians with their health care, our Guidelines require that all adult members are in agreement with Samaritan Ministries’ Statement of Faith in order to be members,”
– Illinois-based organization, Samaritan Ministries, in an email to Baker

The email continues…

The organization’s statement of faith is grounded in the Bible, while Latter-day Saints “historically … affirm additional scriptures as authoritative.”

The email adds:

Those scriptures, as well as leaders of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, have “denied at least some portion” of the organization’s statement of faith.

Sale of second oldest church, Brunswick First Christian Church to Cuyahoga County Community College in Brunswick, Ohio [#ChurchSale #BrunswickOhio #ChristianNews]

With the imminent sale of the second oldest church in the city to Cuyahoga County Community College, according to Brunswick First Christian Church minister, Dr. John Mills, he and his congregation are focusing on the positive.

“We’re still not sure (of the sale date) – we’ve been working with (Tri-C representatives) for weeks trying to get a date.”
– Dr. John Mills

Dr. John Mills added that the most recent information he has indicates that the sale will be completed in September 2019.

“We are tentatively planning our last service Sept. 29; it depends on what the college says. But we will be thanking God for 184 years. It is going to be very positive.”
– Dr. John Mills

The church has been at its current 3611 Center Road location, directly behind the Tri-C campus, since 1961.

According to Dr. John Mills, the closing of the church has had to do with a number of factors, both locally and nationwide.

Dr. John Mills pointed as far back as the 1989 merging of Disciples of Christ – the denomination to which Brunswick First Christian belongs – with the more liberal United Church of Christ, due in large part to financial issues facing the former denomination.

Marty Sampson, worship music writer, singer, and active member of Hillsong denounces his faith [#MartySampson #HillSong #ChristianNewsAndViews]

Marty Sampson, a worship music writer, singer, and active member of Hillsong has publicly denounced his faith on social media.

His announcement comes just weeks after well-known Christian author Joshua Harris announced his departure from Christianity, both sharing their news over Instagram.

Sampson, who has notably written songs for Hillsong Worship, Hillsong United, Delirious and Young & Free, shared a now-deleted post to Instagram, explaining how he is “losing” his faith.

The following is a transcript of the post from Relevant Magazine:

Time for some real talk. I’m genuinely losing my faith, and it doesn’t bother me. Like, what bothers me now is nothing. I am so happy now, so at peace with the world. It’s crazy.

This is a soapbox moment so here I go … How many preachers fall? Many. No one talks about it. How many miracles happen. Not many. No one talks about it. Why is the Bible full of contradictions? No one talks about it. How can God be love yet send four billion people to a place, all ‘coz they don’t believe? No one talks about it. Christians can be the most judgmental people on the planet—they can also be some of the most beautiful and loving people. But it’s not for me.

I am not in any more. I want genuine truth. Not the “I just believe it” kind of truth. Science keeps piercing the truth of every religion. Lots of things help people change their lives, not just one version of God. Got so much more to say, but for me, I keeping it real. Unfollow if you want, I’ve never been about living my life for others.

All I know is what’s true to me right now, and Christianity just seems to me like another religion at this point. I could go on, but I won’t. Love and forgive absolutely. Be kind absolutely. Be generous and do good to others absolutely. Some things are good no matter what you believe. Let the rain fall, the sun will come up tomorrow.

Sampson has spent the last 20 years producing worship music for the Hillsong music groups including Hillsong United, Hillsong Worship, and Hillsong Young & Free.

He has both written and sang worship songs with various Hillsong legends from Darlene Zschech to Joel Houston to Brooke Ligertwood.

Some of his most recent popular songs include: “Forever,” and “Came to My Rescue.”

Some of Sampson’s reasons for leaving the faith include failing to talk about the church failing to address controversies, the devastation of eternal damnation, and contradictions found in the Bible.
