The family of a pastor in South Memphis says he is recovering after being shot outside his own church on Sunday.

According to Memphis Police Department (MPD), the gunshot occurred as 2 suspects attempted to steal a Chevrolet Corvette.

Pastor Clemmie Livingston’s family claimed he will have a hard rehabilitation.

A South Memphis pastor was reportedly hospitalized Monday night after being shot outside his church on Sunday, February 25.

MPD said the incident occurred after a carjacking at 9:15 AM CT at the New Zionfield Baptist Church south of downtown.

The Livingston family was preparing for worship Sunday morning when they received word that their beloved family member, 71-year-old Pastor Clemmie Livingston, had been shot outside the church.

His daughter, Kevona Livingston, stated that incidents like this make some people frightened to leave their homes.

The Livingston family said that a church member stepped outside after hearing a vehicle alarm.

They later reported that Pastor Livingston walked outdoors as well.

According to MPD, the suspects fired rounds as they drove away, and someone returned fire.

According to the family, the bullet cracked Pastor Clemmie Livingston’s jaw.

They said he underwent surgery Monday morning and was doing better than he was on Sunday, but that recuperation would be a long process.

Furthermore, the family stated that he was already battling cancer.

According to the police report, the suspects were 2 males in hoodies who did not know the pastor.

Keith Livingston, his son, is left wondering why they chose to hurt his father.

As Pastor Livingston recovers in the hospital, his grandson, Kavion Woodin, says his family is strong.

The Livingston and New Zionfield Baptist families are requesting continuous prayers and support from the community.
