OPD News:OPD is Investigating Two Potential Hate Crime Incidents
The Oakland Police Department (OPD) is currently investigating two incidents of vandalism. The first incident occurred just before 11:30 p.m. on June 21, 2024; the second incident took place on July 6, 2024, just after midnight. In both cases, which happened in the 3000 block of Lakeshore Avenue, an unknown suspect or suspects were seen throwing a large object at the synagogue’s window.
A police report has been filed, and both incidents are being investigated as potential hate crimes. Members of OPD’s Executive Team and Command Staff have already met with and will continue to stay in contact with the synagogue’s Rabbi.

The Oakland Police Department confirmed on Monday that the window of an Oakland synagogue was smashed on Saturday, marking the second vandalism act in 2 weeks.
The Chabad Jewish Center of Oakland and Piedmont experienced its first incident on June 21.
During both nighttime attacks, “an unknown suspect or suspects were seen throwing a large object at the synagogue’s window.”
The police stated that they were investigating the instances as potential hate crimes and had talked with the rabbi.
The police has requested the public’s help in giving any information or documentation about the incident.
