Translated from Hebrew:
Medical miracle: 85-year-old Alma Avraham, who was released from Hamas captivity after 51 days when her medical condition was defined as very serious, was released this morning from her comb after six months: “I feel wonderful, especially when I see all of you here. Thanks to you I stayed. I had the strength to return to you, to see All of you and especially my children. The abductees should be released now.”
Elma Avraham, an 85-year-old woman who was released in November after 51 days as a Hamas hostage and returned to Israel in critical health, left the hospital on Wednesday after 5 months of recovery.
On Thursday, she gave her first interview on her experiences.
Avraham told Army Radio that she was moved around between 4 or 5 apartments in the Gaza Strip before being taken to underground tunnels, and that she did not meet any other hostages throughout her time there.
Avraham was kidnapped from her home in Kibbutz Nahal Oz on Oct. 7, when 3,000 Hamas terrorists stormed into Israel from Gaza, wreaking havoc on more than 20 villages in the south, murdering 1,200 people and taking 252 hostages.
Avraham arrived at Soroka Medical Center in Beersheba on Nov. 26 after being freed in a week-long truce accord, with all of her vital indicators “extremely low,” the hospital reported.
Avraham requires many life-saving drugs for chronic diseases, but she did not have access to them when she was held in Gaza.
Avraham finally left Soroka on Wednesday and will be rehabilitated at Mediterranean Towers in Bat Yam.
Moti Klein, the trauma unit head at Soroka, described Avraham’s recovery as unprecedented in medical history, given what she had been through.
It is believed that 128 hostages kidnapped by Hamas on Oct. 7 remain in Gaza, but not all of them are alive, after 105 people were freed from Hamas captivity during a weeklong truce in late November, and 4 hostages were released before that.
Troops liberated 3 hostages alive, and the bodies of 12 hostages were recovered, including 3 who were accidentally slain by the military.
The Israel Defense Forces has confirmed the deaths of 36 of those still held captive by Hamas, citing new intelligence and findings obtained by troops operating in Gaza.
1 additional person has been reported missing since Oct. 7, and their fate is unknown.
Hamas has also been holding the bodies of deceased IDF soldiers Oron Shaul and Hadar Goldin since 2014, as well as 2 Israeli civilians, Avera Mengistu and Hisham al-Sayed, who are believed to be alive after entering the Strip on their own in 2014 and 2015, respectively.
