Terry Alan Tipsord, age 72, of Troutdale, Oregon passed away on Thursday, February 6, 2025.

A visitation for Terry will be held Tuesday, February 11, 2025 from 3:00 PM to 7:00 PM at Bateman Carroll Funeral Home, 520 W. Powell Blvd, Gresham, Oregon. A a celebration of life gathering will occur Thursday, February 13, 2025 at 11:00 AM at Bateman Carroll Funeral Home.

Terry Alan Tipsord, a beloved husband, father, community leader, and entrepreneur, passed away on February 6, 2025 at home surrounded by the love and care of his family. He was 72. Born July 1, 1952, in Bloomington, Illinois, to Willard LaMar and Elaine (Burgess) Tipsord, Terry spent his formative years in Arrowsmith, Illinois. His life was a testament to hard work, community involvement, and a deep commitment to family.

A high-achieving student, Terry graduated Magna Cum Laude from Illinois Wesleyan University in 1974. His passions extended beyond academics; he shared his musical talent as a member of the Stringtown Road Band in 1978. Following a period working as an Activities Director at McLean County Nursing Home, he moved to Portland, Oregon, in 1981, where he would make his lasting mark.

In Oregon, Terry continued his pursuit of knowledge, graduating from Western Seminary in 1985. He served as an Assistant Pastor at Pleasant Home Baptist Church, demonstrating his unwavering faith and dedication to serving others.

One of his favorite places was Costco and he became a proud member in 1989.

He welcomed his first daughter, Sarah, in 1991, and his second daughter, Emily, in 1994. In 1992, he purchased his home in Troutdale, a community he would help shape in profound ways.

Terry’s commitment to Troutdale was remarkable. He was instrumental in the development of the Imagination Station (1994), the original organizer of the Troutdale Summerfest (1996), and a key figure in the development of the North Side of Downtown Troutdale. His dedication was recognized with the prestigious Troutdale Citizen of the Year award in 1999.

His entrepreneurial spirit led him to found Daybreak Business Development in 2006, and he further shared his expertise as an instructor at the MHCC Small Business Development Center starting in 2007. In 2015, he married Amy Tipsord, adding another chapter of love and companionship to his life. His success was evident in his business achievements, culminating in the Gresham Outlook’s Reader’s Choice award for Best Bookkeeping/Tax Service in 2018.

Even in his later years, Terry’s dedication to public service remained unwavering. In 2024, he ran for Oregon State Representative, District 49, showcasing his lifelong commitment to community betterment.

Terry will be deeply missed by his wife, Amy; his daughters, Sarah and Emily; and countless friends and community members whose lives he touched.
