4 of the 6 people found are dead, while this couple was rescued after becoming trapped under debris and huge rocks following the major landslide in Yambali Village, Pogera Paela District, Enga Province, , Papua New Guinea at 3 AM PGT on Friday.

The couple, Johnson and Jacklyn Yandam, told NBC News that they are glad for the second chance to live and that it was a huge miracle in their lives.

“I know that we were going to die in the early hours of Friday when the landslide occurred. I told my wife we will die but we have to die together. We were in our room and waiting for the rocks to crush us in that morning.”

– an emotional Johnson explained.

His wife says it was a miracle that happened at that moment.

“We thank God for saving our lives in that moment. We were certain that we were going to die but the big rocks didn’t crush us. Its really hard to explain as we got trapped for nearly 8 hours then got rescued. We believe we were saved for a purpose.”

They also asked the government, NGOs, and humanitarian organizations to assist them with food, water, and other necessities.

The majority of their life savings and assets have been depleted as they wait in anticipation of what will happen next.
