This is the office of Will County Coroner Laurie H. Summers reporting the death of Warren C. Beard a 53-year-old Chicago man who was pronounced deceased at 6:20 p.m., on Tuesday July 9th, 2024. Mr. Beard was found in the DesPlaines River approximately 150 yards west of Brandon Rd in Rockdale, The Illinois State Police are investigating the incident. An autopsy will be performed on Wednesday July 10th, 2024. Final cause and manner will be determined following Autopsy, Police and Toxicological reports.

Authorities confirmed that the body pulled from the Des Plaines River on Tuesday afternoon was a Chicago pastor who had been missing for a week.

Confirmation was initially obtained from the vehicle’s license plate.

A body was also discovered in the truck, and Will County Coroner Laurie Summers later determined it was Warren Beard.

“It’s been a long day for all. We have positively identified the decedent as Warren Beard from Chicago, Illinois.”

According to a statement from the Rockdale Fire Protection District, the agency was notified soon before noon by the Brandon Road Lock Master after reviewing security footage from a week earlier that showed a car entering the water in Rockdale at approximately 10:47 PM CT on July 2.

Rockdale, a community in Will County is situated a few miles southwest of Joliet.

Beard went missing in Joliet a week ago while visiting friends.

His black 2023 Honda HR-V with Illinois plate DY20511 was photographed by a traffic camera near the intersection of Jefferson Street and Larkin Avenue, soon before the vehicle was spotted on security footage entering the water.

Officials claimed the footage showed the vehicle moving on a closed route near an elevated bridge.

The vehicle drove through a thin breach between the road and the bridge, plummeting approximately 70 feet into the water.

Divers and boats searching the Des Plaines riverbed with scanning technology were among the overwhelming response on Tuesday.

The truck was discovered approximately 250 feet from where it appeared to have entered the water.

Minooka, Troy, Elwood, Wilmington, Morris, Braidwood, Rockdale, and Plainfield fire agencies were all on the scene.

The New Lenox and Manhattan Fire Protection Districts were providing area coverage while rescuers continued their search.

Rockdale Police and the Will County Sheriff were aiding with scene security and traffic control.

Beard was missing from Chicago, therefore Chicago police took over the investigation.
