It is with heavy hearts that we share Police Officer David Lee has died.
He was hit by a car earlier this morning while working a crash on I-70 near Grand. We have a suspect in-custody.
We are devastated over the loss of our beloved colleague. Please pray for Officer Lee’s family, friends, and the entire SLMPD and St. Louis community.

Officer David Lee was killed in the line of duty on Sunday morning.

The 44-year-old officer has been with his wife Tonya Lee for 26 years and married for 19.

Officer Lee was a traffic officer of the St. Louis Metropolitan authorities Department (SLMPD) responding to a crash on I-70 on Sunday morning, when authorities say a drunk driver was speeding, lost control, and hit him.

Officer Lee died from his injuries.

Tonya described her husband as always being happy, having a calming presence.

A memorial to Officer Lee is growing outside the North Patrol Division.

Officer Lee was born and raised in St. Louis, and he graduated from Pattonville High School, Maryland Heights, MO.

His younger sister, Danielle Williams, stated that her brother was always her protector, and he did the same for his city during his 18 years with SLMPD.

Officer Lee’s bright grin and golden heart are what his family wants the community to know about.

Tonya described Officer Lee as an incredible father to his 23-year-old son and 18-year-old daughter.

On Monday, Chief Robert Tracy and several other SLMPD officers went to visit the family.

While Lee’s wife is grateful to SLMPD, she wants to see reforms taken to ensure officer safety.

Tonya stated that over his 18 years with the police department, he always worked hard and took on extra shifts to support their family.

The family is asking for prayers, but they say they feel peace knowing he’s in heaven.

Funeral arrangements are still being planned, but the family expects the service to take place on October 5 at the Cathedral Basilica of St. Louis on Lindell.
