Pastor Wayne A. Holcomb (September 8, 1942 – August 14, 2025) was a devoted Christian leader and the co-founder of The Door Fellowship Church (now River Valley Church) in Williamsport, Pennsylvania.
Pastor Wayne was born in Coudersport, PA, to Harold C. and Nira A. (Ayers) Holcomb. In 1964, he married Margaret (Crandall), and together, as part of the Jesus Movement, they launched a Bible study in Quiggleville in 1969. This humble beginning gradually blossomed into The Door Fellowship Church.
The congregation originally met in various rented locations until 1980 when the Holcombs purchased and renovated the former Rialto Theater. They began holding services there in 1984.
Under their leadership, the church expanded significantly and later evolved into River Valley Church, with their son Matt taking over pastoral leadership in 2018.
For over 45 years, Pastor Wayne authored numerous teaching manuals on leadership and relationships, which have been translated into multiple languages. Notable works include Kingdom Principles and The Art of Marriage.
Even after his retirement in 2018, Pastor Wayne continued guiding his home church and other congregations worldwide, including two overseas ministries.
Pastor Wayne was a beloved community figure as well as an outdoorsman—an avid hunter who enjoyed nature and working on his tractor. He loved classic movies, enjoyed traveling, and deeply treasured his time with family.
Pastor Wayne is survived by his wife, their children (Michael, Mark, Margie, Matthew), 14 grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren (with another due in November), a sister, plus nieces and nephews. His siblings Richard, Laura, and William preceded him in death.
On Friday, August 22, 2025, River Valley Church (previously Door Fellowship) in Williamsport will host a viewing followed by a funeral service. Instead of flowers, the family requested memorial donations be made to the church.
Pastor Wayne’s faith, leadership, and love for God’s people will never be forgotten.

Today Pastor Wayne left this earth and stepped into heaven. Truly he was “a mighty man of God”.
He founded our church back in 1969 with a Bible study and a few “hippies”. God used him more than he could have ever dreamed. He was a wonderful pastor, father figure, and a servant to so many. His love for the Lord was infectious and his love for people evident. He preached with sincerity, prayed with fervency, and loved generously. We are so thankful for his labor of love in the Lord and know that all that he has sown for the last 50 plus years will reap a great harvest. We love you Pastor Wayne.
