CHRISTIAN BREAKING NEWS: “Believers have Stopped Coming for Worship as They are Too Scared”: Pastor after Brutal Attack in India

Hi everyone.

Pastor Wakish Sahu of Chhattisgarh, India, shared a heartbreaking report of how fear has suppressed prayer following a horrific attack on his church by Hindu extremists. Bibles were burned, and believers were beaten, so only a few dare to congregate. The church, which once had a thriving congregation, is now almost completely empty.

A group of Hindu extremists stormed the Penial Prayer Fellowship’s worship service in Borsi village, Dhamtari District. They forcibly entered church premises, brandishing wooden rods, shouting “Jai Shri Ram,” smashing chairs, fans, musical instruments, and burning Bibles and other books.

All 15 congregants present—including Pastor Wakish Sahu, his seriously injured father Mannohan, and several women—were beaten. Mannohan lost consciousness during the assault.

Although a complaint was made at the local police station, no formal FIR was registered immediately.

As a result, attendance has collapsed: the congregation shrank from about 50 before last year’s attack to 15, and now only around 10 family members worship together.

Since the June incident, “believers have stopped coming for worship as they are too scared,” says Pastor Wakish

Many have moved to churches in safer towns or cities, although even they aren’t always safe.

Police responses have been inconsistent: they patrol Sunday services and photograph attendees, warning them not to gather outsiders, and when violence erupted the police merely asked attackers to disperse.

🔴 Pray for the persecuted church.
