Pass the Torch, a new grassroots group calling on Biden to withdraw from the 2024 presidential election, staged a rally outside the White House on Saturday.
“Thank you, Joe; it’s time to go!” the group chanted outside the gate.
Organizers estimate that roughly 100 people attended.
Since his dismal debate performance at the end of June, President Biden has been under great pressure from members of his own party to withdraw from the Democratic primary race.
As of Saturday, 35 Democrats have publicly called on Biden to step aside.
In a statement made prior to the rally, Pass the Torch noted that their effort is motivated by concerns that Biden will be unable to overcome former President Trump, referring to November as a “existential election.”
President Biden is currently in Delaware, isolating himself while recovering from COVID.
In a statement issued Friday, the Biden team reiterated its resolve to remain in the race until November.
“Donald Trump’s dark vision for the future is not who we are as Americans. Together, as a party and as a country, we can and will defeat him at the ballot box. The stakes are high, and the choice is clear. Together, we will win.”
