CHRISTIAN BREAKING NEWS: Rodessa Barrett Porter of Legendary Barrett Sisters Gospel Trio (December 15, 1930 – December 16, 2024) [#RodessaBarrettPorter #RodessaPorter]

Rodessa Barrett Porter’s crystalline soprano weaved filigrees across the Barrett Sisters’ music, which gave audiences shivers while glorifying God.

Mrs. Porter, the gospel trio’s only living member, died on Monday, according to family members’ social media posts.

It was the day following her 94th birthday.

The sisters sang together for 70 years before becoming global sensations with their beautiful, inspiring performance in the documentary “Say Amen, Somebody.”

Mrs. Porter was one of only a few persons who still had direct ties to Thomas A. Dorsey, the father of gospel music.

She and her sisters, Delois Barrett Campbell and Billie Barrett Greenbey, would listen to him at Chicago’s Ebenezer Missionary Baptist Church.

They learned from him and gospel singer Mahalia Jackson, who resided near the Barretts on the South Side.

“They were both within walking distance,” Mrs. Porter told the Sun-Times.
