On Friday, Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump promised Christians that if they vote for him in November, “in four years, you don’t have to vote again. We’ll have it fixed so good, you’re not gonna have to vote.”
It was unclear what the former president meant by his remarks, made during an election campaign in which his Democratic opponents accuse him of being a threat to democracy, and following his attempt to overturn his 2020 defeat to President Joe Biden, which resulted in the deadly insurrection at the United States Capitol on January 6, 2021.
Trump was speaking at an event hosted by the conservative group Turning Point Action in West Palm Beach, Florida.
“Christians, get out and vote, just this time. “You won’t have to do it anymore. Four more years, you know what, it will be fixed, it will be fine, you won’t have to vote anymore, my beautiful Christians.”
“I love you Christians. I’m a Christian. I love you, get out, you gotta get out and vote. In four years, you don’t have to vote again, we’ll have it fixed so good you’re not going to have to vote.”

In a December interview with Fox News, Trump stated that if he won the Nov. 5 election, he would be a dictator, but only on “day one,” with plans to close the southern border with Mexico and expand oil drilling.
Democrats have seized onto that remark.
Trump has later stated that the statements were a joke.
If Trump wins a second term, he will only be able to serve another 4 years as president.
The United States Constitution limits presidents to 2 terms, whether consecutive or not.
In May, during a National Rifle Association event, Trump joked about serving more than 2 terms as president.
He was referring to the presidency of Democrat Franklin D. Roosevelt, the only president to serve more than 2 terms.
The two-term limit was added after Roosevelt’s presidency.
Trump’s remarks on Friday highlighted the importance of both parties energizing their base voters ahead of what is expected to be a closely contested election.
Evangelicals have consistently supported Trump in the last 2 elections.
The contest has quickly tightened following Biden’s decision to stop his reelection campaign and his vice president, Kamala Harris, becoming the presumed Democratic nominee.
Recent polls show that Trump’s substantial lead over Biden has been mostly lost after the torch was transferred to Harris.
