The pastor at Socastee Worship Center, Myrtle Beach, SC is celebrating a life-saving miracle.

Pastor Chuck McElroy suffered a heart attack while shopping at the Surfside Beach Walmart on June 15.

He fainted on the floor, and his wife yelled for help.

Chad Hughes and his family were starting their vacation in North Carolina and were also in Walmart that day.

Hughes’ family directed him to the medical room, where he began CPR because McElroy’s body had turned unresponsive.

Hughes is a firefighter who has completed CPR training.

He stated that he has administered CPR before but has never saw someone resuscitate and then met them afterwards.

“I got to witness a direct answer to my prayer,” said Hughes. “Y’all are getting to witness a direct answer to your prayer. God does answer prayer.”

McElroy and Hughes reconnected a few days later after searching for one other on Facebook and were reunited in the hospital while McElroy was still recovering.

They gathered again this past Sunday to celebrate at Socastee Worship Center.

“It makes you humble; you get a heart of gratitude. That he was willing to do what God trained him to do. What God called him as a firefighter to do.”

McElroy will deliver his first sermon since his heart attack next Sunday, September 8.

The doctors informed McElroy that only 2% of persons survived the type of attack he experienced, and only 1% lived without brain injury.

McElroy claimed he is a walking, talking miracle.
