According to new data from Pew Research Center, the number of Christian-majority countries dropped from 124 in 2010 to 120 in 2020. Once-Christian nations like the UK, France, and Australia are no longer majority Christian, as the religiously unaffiliated population rises globally.
This trend raises major concerns about the future of Christianity, cultural identity, and the growing influence of secularism and non-religion.

Christian-majority countries declined from 124 in 2010 to 120 in 2020, according to statistics from 201 countries and territories.
Despite the decline, Christians remained the majority in 60% of countries in 2020—down from 62% a decade earlier.
The drop in Christian-majority status was primarily driven by the rise of the religiously unaffiliated—those identifying as atheist, agnostic, or “nothing in particular.”
Countries that lost their Christian-majority status include: United Kingdom, Australia, France, and Uruguay—where Christian affiliation fell below 50%.
By 2020, the number of countries with a religiously unaffiliated majority has increased from 7 to 10. New entries in this category include the Netherlands and New Zealand. These joined countries like included China, North Korea, the Czech Republic, Hong Kong, Vietnam, Macao, and Japan.
The number of countries whose majority population identify as Muslim (53), Buddhist (7), Hindu (2), Jewish (1), or other religions (1) remained constant.
The trend indicates a progressive global transition away from Christian-majority status in several nations, primarily due to increased religious disaffiliation.
