CHRISTIAN BREAKING NEWS: “How to Spread Christianity in India” Lecture Scheduled for March 14 Canceled by University of Madras in Chennai, India [#HowToSpreadChristianityInIndia]

A lecture titled “How to Spread Christianity in India” set for March 14 at the University of Madras has been canceled due to protests by the ABVP and Hindu organizations, as well as indignation on social media.

BJP state secretary S G Suryah raised the issue, condemning the university officials for hosting the event.

The formal announcement by the Department of Ancient History and Archaeology, University of Madras on holding the Sir S Subramania Ayyar Endowment Lecture 2024-2025 by K Siva Kumar, Chief Engineer, Hyderabad on the topics: “How to spread Christianity in India” and “Why do we need this margam” sparked outrage.

The invite, which went viral on social media, garnered criticism from several quarters.

Shortly after the event was announced, numerous people turned to ‘X’ to criticize the University of Madras, accusing it of turning the temple of learning into a Christian propaganda vehicle.

Following the backlash, the University of Madras confirmed the cancellation of the lecture.

In a statement to the Raj Bhavan dated March 7, Prof S Elumalai, Registrar, stated that the Department of Ancient History and Archaeology had not received consent from the University of Madras to hold the endowment lecture on the mentioned topics.

Earlier that day, after he was reportedly questioned, J Soundararajan, Associate Professor and Head in-charge, chairperson of the School of Historical Studies, Department of Ancient History & Archaeology, University of Madras, stated in a communication to the Registrar that the endowment lecture for the academic year 2024-2025 has been canceled “due to administration reasons.”
