Donald Trump declined to debate Vice President Kamala Harris before the presidential election in the United States on Saturday, hours after the Democratic candidate’s campaign stated she had accepted to a CNN debate with her Republican opponent on October 23.
Trump maintained his earlier view that there would be no additional debates before voters go to the polls on November 5.
“The problem with another debate is that it’s just too late. Voting has already started,” the former US President told supporters at an event in Wilmington, North Carolina.
Harris and Trump debated for the first time on September 10.
In June, Trump debated President Joe Biden.
Biden’s weak performance in that debate alarmed Democrats, prompting strategists to consider whether their party should take the unusual step of removing the 81-year-old president as its nominee.
Biden dropped out of the contest for the White House in July.
