You know Rob from the Mornings. Some know him as the guy who lost 140lbs to overcome obesity, others know him as the 16 year old kid kicked out of his home to live in the streets, and others know him as being a foster and adoptive parent. Rob and his wife’s kids range from a 38 year old war hero, 27 year old Social Media Marketing Director, 22 year college graduate who just got married, and an 15 year old whom they adopted November ’09. Plus, many foster children through their home for over 9 years.

HisAir is deeply saddened to report the passing of His Radio/Greenville Operations Manager / mornings Rob Dempsey. Recently Rob was diagnosed with cancer. He was admitted to the hospital for an emergency surgery last week, and suffered cardiac arrest last night.

In April Rob celebrated over 35 years at Radio Training Network and 24 years at His Radio/Greenville.

Rob’s testimony of how he got into Christian Radio is remarkable, a true story of the Grace of God. He loved to tell the story.

Rob told HisAir, “My start in radio began as a homeless teenager, addicted to drugs and alcohol. A youth pastor who reached out to me during this time introduced me to WCIE in Lakeland, Fl. One night while leaving a bar WCIE was on the radio. I had given up on life. Dave Stewart reached out over the radio. It was as if he was speaking to me. “God loves you” he said “He will never leave you nor forsake you.” He prayed the sinner’s prayer and at that moment I rededicated my life to Christ. Then I prayed another prayer. “God, I want to do what that guy on the radio is doing.”

“I never believed that prayer would be answered. However, it was. One year later I became a volunteer DJ at WLPJ in North Tampa. God was using me to help others the same way WCIE helped me. Easter Sunday 1988 I began a part time shift at WJIS in Sarasota, Florida. It was here that I learned how to do radio. By January 1989 I became the full time overnight announcer.”

In the years to come Rob became well versed in radio. He performed a number of job duties including Traffic Manager, Production Director, Program Director, Station Manager and eventually Operations/ Program Director for His Radio in the Carolina’s and Georgia. Where he spent over 24 years on the air and programming.

The funeral service to celebrate Rob’s life will be held on Monday, October 28, 2024 at 11:00 a.m. at Brookwood Church followed by a time of visitation. For those unable to attend the service in person, a livestream will be available at brookwoodchurch.org.
