On Monday night, Lee Greenwood sang “God Bless the USA” while introducing former President Donald Trump to the crowd on the 2024 Republican National Convention (RNC) stage.

Trump made his first convention appearance since a shooter opened fire at his rally in Pennsylvania, injuring Trump, 2 others, and killing 1 man.

As Greenwood took the stage, he spoke about Saturday’s attempt on Trump’s life, thanking God that the bullet missed Trump by just enough to allow him to become president.

“Prayer works. This nation based on faith. Prayer works. Because He was sure, as Donald Trump turned his head just slightly, that the bullet missed him just enough to save his life to be the next president of the United States.”

Greenwood, a Nashville-area country musician whose popular song “God Bless the USA” inspired a Bible with the same name and is a longtime Trump supporter, continued to speak as he began singing his song.

Calling on the convention to remember why they were there: to Donald Trump reelected in November.

Trump tried to sell Greenwood’s Bible, which contains the United States Constitution, Bill of Rights, Declaration of Independence, Pledge of Allegiance, and lyrics to the chorus of Greenwood’s “God Bless The USA.”

Many critics consider it a symbol of Christian nationalism.

As Greenwood concluded his song, the audience chanted “fight, fight, fight,” and Trump took center stage as invited speaker Mark Laws approached.
