It’s a day of immense pride for Christians in Pakistan as we celebrate the promotion of a remarkable individual to the rank of “Major General”. Making history as the “first SSG Christian Commando Officer” Major General Jullion Moazzam James in the 76-year history of the Pakistan Army, this milestone fills us with pride.

Major General Julian Moazzam James became the first Christian in Pakistan’s military history to be promoted from the elite Special Service Group (SSG).
The SSG is Pakistan Army’s special operations force.
According to media sources, James led a Pakistani military mission to India in April 2023 to attend the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation’s defense ministers meeting, which was hosted by Indian Minister of Defence Rajnath Singh.
Julian Peter, not James, was the first Christian major general in the Pakistan Armed Forces.
Peter, who died in March 2023, served in the 1971 India-Pakistan War as a member of the 4th Frontier Force Haidry Regiment in the Hilli Sector of East Pakistan, now Bangladesh.
Similarly, Noel Israel Khokhar, a Christian commander, was elevated to Major General in 2009.
He is now serving as Pakistan’s ambassador to Ukraine.
Dr Helen Mary Roberts was promoted to brigadier in June of this year, becoming the first Pakistani Christian woman to reach that level.
Roberts was a senior pathologist in the Pakistan Army Medical Corps and the first female surgeon general in Pakistan’s military.
Similarly, several members of the Pakistani Christian community have served in the Pakistan Air Force.
They include Air Commodore Nazir (Bill) Latif, who served in both the 1965 and 1971 wars.
Wing Commander Mervyn Leslie Middlecoat was a well-known Pakistan Air Force pilot from the same community.
During the 1971 conflict, his plane was shot down over the Indian Ocean.
