Timothy Eugene Scott (Tim Scott) (born September 19, 1965) is an American businessman and politician who has served as the junior United States Senator representing South Carolina since 2013.

He is a Republican who has previously served as a Charleston city councilor, state representative, and United States Representative.

He formerly worked in financial services before entering politics.

Early Life
Tim Scott was raised in North Charleston, South Carolina in a poor, single-parent household by his mama, Frances Scott. Despite the challenging circumstances Frances faced raising her boys on her own, she instilled in each of them what it meant to find dignity in work, and the power that faith in God can have on your life.

From Cotton to Congress
Tim’s granddaddy dropped out of third grade to pick cotton. Tim’s granddaddy couldn’t read, but he sat at the kitchen table every morning with a newspaper to set a good example. He helped raise Tim and his brother, and taught them the importance of a good education. Tim’s granddaddy lived long enough to go from picking cotton to seeing his grandson pick out his seat in Congress. To go from Cotton to Congress in one lifetime is a journey that can only happen in America.

In the Senate
In 2013, Tim joined the U.S. Senate. With one of the most conservative voting records in Congress, Tim also plays a critical role in protecting the unborn, Second Amendment rights, and advancing opportunity and education for families. His signature legislation, Opportunity Zones, has infused $75 billion of private investments into distressed communities across the country in just a few years. As he continues his work to lift Americans out of poverty, every day he fights to ensure every American has the opportunity to succeed as he did.
