Modi has rewarded the BJP’s coalition partners by inducting numerous MPs from the National Democratic Alliance (NDA).
In Andhra Pradesh, where the NDA won 21 of 25 Lok Sabha seats, two MPs from the Telugu Desam Party (TDP) and 2 from the BJP took oaths.
Several figures, including TDP’s Ram Mohan Naidu, Pemmasani Chandrashekhar, JD(S)’s H.D. Kumaraswamy, and BJP’s Sarbananda Sonowal, have been appointed to the Cabinet.
The NDA won 286 seats in this election, while the BJP got 240, falling shy of the 272 majority level.
This is far lower than the 303 and 282 seats it won in 2019 and 2014, respectively, to achieve a majority on its own.
