Muslim employers of a 17-year-old Christian who works at a gas company in Pakistan have forced him to convert to Islam and are holding him illegally, his mother claims.
Samina Javed, a brick kiln worker in Bhadru Minara village in Sheikhupura District, Punjab Province, stated that her son, Samsoon Javed, started working at Usman Manzoor’s Liquified Petroleum Gas (LPG) outlet in November.
Samsoon’s parents noticed a change in his behavior after his brother, Umar Manzoor, recruited him to work at his LPG station in July, according to Javed.
Falamoon Masih, Samsoon’s father, died in 2018 from sickness; he is one of Javed’s 4 children from that marriage.
She is currently married to Javed Masih, with whom she has another son.
“We came to know about Samsoon’s conversion in September, when he didn’t come home from work. When my husband and I went to Umar’s shop to check about Samsoon, he told us that our son had become a Muslim and didn’t want to live with us anymore. We were shocked to hear this and pleaded with Umar to let us meet with Samsoon, but he refused and told us to leave his property.”

Javed, a member of a local Brethren church, stated that they were able to see Samsoon after a few days when Umar was not at the shop.
They then discovered through contacts that the Manzoor brothers had taken their son to an Islamic spiritual counselor (Pir), where he was persuaded to abandon his Christian beliefs, she claimed.
The impoverished kiln worker stated that her family was facing a huge challenge in recovering their child.
Samina asked church leaders and rights organizations for help in approaching the relevant legal forums.
Attempts to convert Christian boys and men to Islam are uncommon in Pakistan.
Christian and Hindu girls and young women are frequently kidnapped and forced to “convert” to Islam before being pressured into marrying a Muslim.
These “conversions” are frequently carried out under fear of violence against the victims and their families, but authorities rarely intervene.
Some Muslims believe that simply reciting shahada (Arabic; “Kalima” in Urdu) is enough to convert a non-Muslim to Islam, regardless of belief or the circumstances surrounding the “conversion.”
If a person converts to Islam and then returns to their old faith, they are labeled apostates.
According to Islamic law, apostasy is punishable by death, imprisonment, or property confiscation, however this is rarely enforced at the governmental level nowadays.
Some devout Muslims, however, believed they were doing the right thing when they attacked or killed apostates.
