All 5 suspects in the murder of Veronica Butler and Jilian Kelley were in court today for a discovery status hearing.

31-year-old Paul Grice, 43 years old Tad Cullum, 54-year-old Tifany Adams, 50-year-old Cole Twombly, and 44-year-old Cora Twombly are all charged with 2 counts of first-degree murder, 2 counts of kidnapping, and 1 count of conspiracy to commit murder in the first degree.

All 5 defendants appeared in court at the same time.

Texas County Associate District Judge A. Clark Jett stated that this was unprecedented for the county.

He said that all future hearings will be conducted in the same manner.

Judge Jett heard arguments on the defendants’ requests, including a request for Tad Cullum to see law materials provided by the defense counsel.

The judge ruled that:

‘”The Sheriff of Texas County, Oklahoma may, in his sole and sound direction, and in the interests of justice continue to accommodate the requests of attorney Joi Miskel to allow her client access to ‘law material’ provided to Mr. Cullum by Ms. Miskel.’”

Judge Jett ruled on the state’s objection and request for an exemption to the court’s initial discovery order.

The state objected to the motion because it contained “broad language” and urged the court to redact portions of it.

Some defense lawyers believed this meant they would be unable to view evidence, but Judge Jett said they will have plenty of time to do so before a pretrial date is set.

The motion was also altered to read:

“The State of Oklahoma shall use best efforts not to consume the entire biological sample when conducting DNA testing without first notifying counsel and obtaining an order from the court.”

At today’s hearing, we learned that the case contains 4 gigabytes of evidence, 2 of which will be available before the pretrial.

Nobody has yet received the Medical Examiner’s Report.

The state anticipates it will be available in 2 to 3 weeks.

Until the discovery phase is completed, there will be status hearings on the 3rd Wednesday of each month.

The next hearing is planned on July 17, at 9 AM CT.

Judge Jett also directed all counsel to begin comparing calendars to identify an October or November date for the pretrial.

He also urged them to consider whether the accused should be tried individually or all together.
