This update comes directly from Laine’s family and verified public information shared through their GoFundMe page.
According to her loved ones, Laine was diagnosed with viral meningitis and encephalitis — infections that caused dangerous swelling in the brain.
She underwent emergency surgery, a bilateral craniectomy, to relieve the pressure.
For more than a week, Laine has remained in a medically induced coma, her medical team monitoring every heartbeat and brain response.
But this week brought a small sign of progress. Her doctors began a careful process to reduce sedation and watch for responses.
On Tuesday night, they noticed one brief, one-minute seizure — but otherwise, the day stayed calm. Her team says she’s tolerating the process well, and her family is praying for signs of movement soon.
Her mother, Danielle Nipper, shared these hopeful words:
“We’re hopeful to soon see some little wiggles and physical reactions from our girl — what a beautiful sight that will be.”
