#Iran’s President Ebrahim Raisi, Foreign Minister Hossein Amirabdollahian and a group of officials accompanying them were martyred in a helicopter crash in northwestern Iran.

Ebrahim Raisi, Iran’s 8th president, died after a helicopter carrying him and his entourage crashed in the Varzaqan region of East Azarbaijan Province, in the country’s northwest.

Raisi’s helicopter, along with 2 others, was on their way to Tabriz City on Sunday after inaugurating the Qiz Qalasi Dam near the Azerbaijan Republic’s border earlier that day.

Foreign Minister Hossein Amirabdollahian, East Azarbaijan Province Governor Malek Rahmati, and Mehdi Mousavi, the head of Raisi’s guard squad, were also aboard the crashed plane.

Mohammad Ali Al-e-Hashem, the Supreme Leader’s representative in the province, also accompanied them.

Local officials at the crash site have confirmed Raisi and his team’s deaths.

The Iranian government will soon issue an official statement.
