According to 3News, a fire has started at the historic St. Theodosius Orthodox Cathedral in Cleveland’s Tremont area.
The Association of Cleveland Fire Fighters IAFF Local 93 reported the event on X (previously Twitter) Tuesday afternoon, reporting that the fire started around 4:30 PM ET.
According to officials, the incident occurred along Starkweather Avenue and Professor Street, with St. Theodosius serving as the only church in the vicinity.
3News cameras have since captured smoke pouring from the 112-year-old building.
At this time, there are no reports of injuries, however firemen on the scene have sought assistance in battling the flames.
St. Theodosius, a member of the Russian Orthodox faith, was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1974, the same year it was designated as a Cleveland landmark.
It also rose to prominence for its role in the Oscar-winning film “The Deer Hunter,” where it served as the wedding venue for John Savage and Rutanya Alda’s characters.
