Question #1: What was Israel’s sharp response?

Israel issued a sharp response to the UN General Assembly’s decision, utterly rejecting the resolution. Officials condemned it as a “political circus detached from reality” that fails to even label Hamas as a terrorist organization. Israel stressed that Hamas is solely responsible for prolonging the war by refusing to release hostages and disarm.

In its statement, Israel argued that the resolution does not advance peace but instead encourages Hamas to continue fighting. The government also expressed gratitude to the countries that voted against or abstained, refusing to lend their support to what Israel called a “disgraceful decision” by the General Assembly.

Question #2: What was the global vote count?

The global vote count in the UN General Assembly was 142 in favor, 10 against, and 12 abstentions.

This overwhelming majority reflected broad international support for the resolution calling for Palestinian statehood and the implementation of a two-state solution, despite Israel’s strong opposition. Only a small group of nations, including the United States, Argentina, Hungary, Paraguay, and several Pacific island states, joined Israel in voting against the resolution.

Question #3: What does this mean for the ongoing Israel-Palestine conflict?

The UN General Assembly’s resolution is non-binding, so it does not create a Palestinian state or directly change realities on the ground. However, it carries both symbolic and political weight. The overwhelming support (142 nations in favor) shows that majority of the world supports the idea of Palestinian statehood and a two-state solution while Israel faces increasing diplomatic isolation.

For the Israel-Palestine conflict, this means mounting international pressure on Israel to negotiate and accept a path toward Palestinian sovereignty, as well as rising calls for Hamas to be excluded from any future leadership of Gaza. At the same time, Israel’s rejection highlights a deepening divide between global opinion and its own security concerns, implying that the conflict will likely remain a major flashpoint in world politics.

Israel utterly rejects the decision of the UN General Assembly this evening.

Once again, it has been proven how much the General Assembly is a political circus detached from reality: in the dozens of clauses of the declaration endorsed by this resolution, there is not a single mention that Hamas is a terrorist organization.

There is no reference to the simple fact that Hamas is solely responsible for the continuation of the war, through its refusal to return the hostages and disarm.

The resolution does not advance a solution of peace — on the contrary, it encourages Hamas to continue the war.

Israel thanks all the countries that did not lend their hand to this disgraceful decision in the General Assembly.
