As he sat for a rare primetime interview to assuage Democratic concerns about his campaign, US President Joe Biden stated that only the “Lord Almighty” could convince him to quit his re-election bid.
In an interview with ABC News on Friday, Biden also declined to take a cognitive test and release the findings in order to reassure voters that he is fit to serve another term.
“I have a cognitive test every single day. Every day I have that test – everything I do [is a test].”

The 81-year-old pushed back against the notion, floated by some Democratic officials and donors, that he should step aside for a younger candidate following his dismal debate with Donald Trump last week.
Throughout the interview, Stephanopoulos challenged the president on his ability to serve another term, asking Biden if he was denying his health and winning potential.
“I don’t think anybody’s more qualified to be president or win this race than me.”

During the 22-minute conversation, he also:
Attempted to allay Democratic concerns that he had lost ground to Donald Trump since the debate, saying pollsters he had spoken with thought the election was a “toss-up”
Rejected suggestions allies may request that he step away. “It’s not going to happen,” he said
Dismissed repeated questions about what prompted him to abandon the campaign.
“If the Lord Almighty came down and said, ‘Joe, get out of the race,’ I’d get out of the race. The Lord Almighty’s not coming down.”

The president responded more clearly than he did at the debate last week, although his voice sounded weak and occasionally hoarse.
