A defiant US President Joe Biden vowed Wednesday to compete for reelection, refusing rising Democratic demand to retire after a catastrophic debate performance cast doubt on his ability to continue campaigning, let alone win in November.
However, the president’s situation was deteriorating.
2 Democratic congressmen have urged Biden to withdraw from the race, while a key ally has publicly hinted that the party may choose someone else.
Senior advisers warned he may only have a few days to demonstrate his ability to handle the situation before the party’s worry boils over.
“Let me say this as clearly as I possibly can as simply and straightforward as I can: I am running … no one’s pushing me out. I’m not leaving. I’m in this race to the end and we’re going to win.”
