Church Family,

Today we are writing a letter that no leadership team desires to write.

Through thoughtful prayer and heartfelt tears, the leadership team of Lexington City Church has voted to permanently cease our ministry. Due to the continued effects of the financial situation our church inherited several years ago and the impact of the ongoing investigation of a former staff member, we have lost the ability to remain financially viable and fulfill our God-given mission.

Our hearts are broken for those who have been hurt and are hurting, and we will continue to cooperate fully with the ongoing investigation. However, with heavy hearts, we feel it is in the best interest of the Kingdom and our community that we discontinue our ministry.

As a city, Lexington is blessed with a wide variety of vibrant and welcoming church communities, many of which have been praying for our church family in this time of heartache.

So, while today ends our chapter, we’re incredibly encouraged by the larger community of Christ followers throughout our city and know that there’s a place within it for everyone who once called LexCity their home.

Pain and hurt are never the wishes of any church. So, the leadership of LexCity Church is deeply grieved at the pain and hurt caused by a former staff member’s alleged actions, which affect so many in so many ways. Our hearts and prayers go out to the victim, their families, and those wounded by this. LexCity Church has been cooperating and continues to cooperate fully with the ongoing law enforcement investigation. Due to the active investigation, the church cannot comment further.

LexCity Church Leadership

A Lexington church has chosen to disband its mission following allegations of a scandal among its leadership.

LexCity Church issued an official statement announcing that church leaders have decided to “permanently cease” their ministry.

On July 1, former pastor Zachary King reportedly admitted to having a nearly year-and-a-half sexual relationship with a minor that began when she was 15 years old.

Investigators claimed King admitted to taking her up from her home in Fayette County and traveling up the road to have sex in his car.

According to the attorney general’s office, King also told investigators that he had intercourse with her in her home, his home, and at LexCity Church, where he previously served as pastor.

According to arrest papers, King resigned as church pastor when the congregation questioned him about the ongoing investigation into his activities.

The church stated that it will continue to fully cooperate with the ongoing investigation.
