During a speech streamed on X on Friday, US President Joe Biden announced that Israel had presented a new agreement that is ready for implementation.
According to Joe Biden, Israel’s proposed ceasefire will be implemented in 3 stages.
PHASE 1:
The first phase would include a complete ceasefire, the evacuation of IDF soldiers from Gaza, the partial release of some of the remaining hostages, a swap for Palestinian prisoners, and the entry of 600 trucks into the strip. The phase would last 6 weeks.
PHASE 2:
The second phase would bring a “permanent end to hostilities.”
If it takes more than 6 weeks to reach Phase 2, the ceasefire will be extended.
This would also include the release of all remaining live hostages, including soldies.
This would also imply the formal, permanent cease of hostilities.
PHASE 3:
The third phase would include the reparation of the Gaza Strip.
Once achieved, this phase would include the return of the hostages’ remains who died in Hamas custody.
Biden called the proposal a historic opportunity, and urged Hamas to accept it.
He also mentioned that some Israelis, including those within its government, would prefer that the war continue for longer.
He urged them to “take a step back.”
