Gordon Carmichael, a 15-year-old Greenbrier High School, Evans, GA student, died in a single-vehicle accident at Riverwood Parkway and Amberley Drive in Evans around 4:30 AM ET on Thursday.
The cause of the accident near a curve on Riverwood is unknown.
At 5:50 AM, his mother reported him and the car missing, according to Columbia County Sheriff’s Office Maj. Steve Morris.
She quickly heard the dreadful news.
Morris said no one else was injured in the crash, and the investigation will take some time.
Classmates are in mourning, and out of respect, Greenbrier canceled all athletic events for Thursday afternoon.
Gordon’s church, Journey Community Church, had arranged a prayer time for Thursday night.
Students plan to pray at the school flagpole on Friday morning.
By Thursday afternoon, friends had begun laying souvenirs at the foot of a tree near the crash site, such as beautiful flowers, stickers, and letters.
His classmates described him as a wrestler and football player with a pure soul who was energetic, witty, and always surrounded by his buddies.
People never saw him without a smile.
On Thursday, Greenbrier’s halls were silent.
Students reported that one of his teachers moved. his desk so that no one could sit in it.
Following the teen’s death, several schools in the Columbia County School District expressed their condolences.
