A former Palmetto pastor has been arrested for possessing child pornography.
The Manatee County Sheriff’s Office (MCSO) received information on June 20 that Jonathan Elwing, 43, had used cryptocurrency to purchase child sexual assault material.
Elwing was the senior pastor at Palm View Baptist Church, located at 6803 34th Avenue East in Palmetto, FL.
MCSO deputies searched Elwing’s residence and the church where he worked.
The MCSO reported that detectives discovered 4 explicit photographs of children on his cell phone.
Elwing was arrested and placed into the Manatee County Jail on 4 counts of possession of child pornography.
According to the MCSO, he resigned from his employment at the church before being arrested.
MCSO is requesting anyone with information on suspected crimes involving Elwing to call 914-747-3011.
