CHRISTIAN BREAKING NEWS: LGBTQ+ Archbishop Triggers Church SPLIT! Nigeria Breaks Communion with Wales

Hi everyone,

A global Anglican crisis has just erupted—Nigeria has severed ties with Wales over the appointment of a lesbian archbishop. Is this the beginning of a new reformation—or the end of unity?

The Anglican Church of Nigeria has officially cut ties with the Church in Wales following the appointment of an openly lesbian bishop, Cherry Vann, as archbishop.

The Church of Nigeria (Anglican Communion), led by Primate the Most Rev. Henry C. Ndukuba, condemns, unequivocally rejects, and will not recognize the election of the Rt. Rev. Cherry Vann—an openly lesbian bishop—to the office of Archbishop of Wales.

The election is described as a “departure from biblical teaching,” “spiritual decadence,” and “outright abandonment of the faith once delivered to the saints.”

The statement explicitly quotes 2 Timothy 4:3-4, warning that many within the Church “cannot endure sound doctrine” and turn away to follow their own desires.

References to Matthew 16:18 and Jude 1:24‑25 provide assurance that Jesus will preserve His Church, despite the perceived deviation.

The election is viewed as endangering evangelism efforts, the integrity of the Anglican witness, and the salvation of souls worldwide.

Cherry Vann’s role is compared to that of Katherine Jefferts Schori, former Episcopal Church Presiding Bishop, under whom conservative Anglicans claim to have faced persecution.

Nigeria has formally severed every relationship and communion with the Church in Wales as an institutional act of protest.

The Church has reaffirmed its alignment with GAFCON (Global Anglican Future Conference) and like‑minded orthodox provinces such as Rwanda and Uganda.

Nigeria urges global Anglicans to pray for repentance within the Church in Wales, and to hope that the Church of England will not follow similar paths.

Believers are called to reject “rebels and apostates,” defend historic creeds and catechism, and maintain traditional doctrine and holy living.

Cherry Vann (born October 29, 1958) has served as Bishop of Monmouth since early 2020, and was elected Archbishop of Wales on July 30, 2025, becoming the first woman and first openly LGBTQ+ person to hold an Anglican primatial office in the UK or Ireland.

The Church of Nigeria’s action follows a longstanding pattern of opposition to progressive shifts in provinces such as the Episcopal Church USA and certain Western Anglican provinces, including past severance after Gene Robinson’s consecration in 2003.

In essence, the Church of Nigeria views Cherry Vann’s election as a pivotal moment of doctrinal crisis within global Anglicanism. Their response is rooted in scriptural fidelity and traditional Anglican doctrines, resulting in a formal separation from the Church in Wales and a call for conservative Anglicans around the world to reaffirm their adherence to historic creeds and biblical authority.
