A GoFundMe organized by Ivan Ortiz shares that his wife, Maddie Ortiz, was critically injured in a car accident caused by a drunk driver on October 16.
Ivan says Maddie faces multiple surgeries and may need to be transferred to an out-of-state rehabilitation facility.
He explains that he’s the sole income earner for their family and had to take time off work to care for Maddie and their three-year-old son.
Ivan also mentions that he’s a licensed barber for Texas Tech Football and works at a private studio — meaning the sudden loss of income has made this season even more challenging.
In the GoFundMe post, Ivan writes:
“I’m asking for as many prayer warriors as she can get during this difficult time, that she will make a full recovery and come back home to our family.”
The fundraiser, titled “Help Support Maddie’s Road to Recovery,” has raised about $4,200 of its $25,000 goal through more than 50 donations so far.
Funds will go toward medical expenses, travel, and living costs while Maddie heals.

My income is based off 100% commission at this time, and I have taken off work to be by Maddie’s side during this difficult time since the accident. We are asking for help to cover medical expenses, travel costs, and basic living expenses as Maddie fights to heal and regain her strength.
