A mass shooting took place at the Church of the Annunciation and Annunciation Catholic School in Minneapolis on August 27, 2025, during a school Mass. The attacker, Robin Westman (23), opened fire using multiple firearms, killing two children and injuring 17 others—14 of whom were also children.

The FBI is investigating the incident as a case of domestic terrorism and an anti-Catholic hate crime. Authorities are examining disturbing writings and videos posted by the shooter, which contained hateful messages and included references to previous mass killers.

Community and political leaders, including Minneapolis officials, President Trump, and others, have expressed grief and called for unity, while the flag was ordered to be flown at half-staff in solidarity.

Greg Laurie, Senior Pastor of Harvest Christian Fellowship, shared a heartfelt reflection in response to the Minneapolis Catholic school shooting:

“Just as there is a God in Heaven who loves us, there is also a devil destined for hell who hates us—and he hates everything God loves. And we know God loves His people. He loves the Jewish people. He loves His church. And He especially loves children.

In response to the shooter’s twisted question, “Where is your God?”—the answer is clear: God is with the suffering.

As Scripture declares: “The Lord is close to the brokenhearted and saves those who are crushed in spirit” (Psalm 34:18 NIV). In moments like this, we cling to God’s promise.

Evil struck in a place of worship. But even in the darkest hour, God is near to the brokenhearted.

Please join me in prayer for the children, families, teachers, first responders, and all touched by this tragedy. Pray that “the Father of mercies and God of all comfort” (2 Corinthians 1:3 NKJV) will surround the grieving in this critical hour.”

The incident was especially shocking because it targeted children during Mass—a moment meant for worship and community, not violence.

Greg Laurie’s response emphasizes active faith and seeking comfort in God, encouraging viewers not to languish in grief but to respond with prayer, compassion, and purpose.

Evil may ask, “Where is your God?” — but we declare: Our God is with us, even in tragedy.
