Beau Shroyer, 44, from Detroit Lakes, Minnesota, and his wife Jackie, moved to Angola in 2021 with their five children.
They were missionaries with SIM USA, serving local communities through education, ministry, and outreach.
But on October 25, 2024, tragedy struck.
Beau was found stabbed to death inside his vehicle near Lubango, Angola.
At first, authorities thought it was a robbery.
But Angola’s Criminal Investigation Service (SIC) soon uncovered something far darker.
Investigators say Jackie Shroyer conspired to have her husband killed — paying nearly $50,000 to three men, including the family’s security guard, Bernardino Isaac Elias — who was also reportedly her romantic partner.
The alleged plot: stage a roadside breakdown, lure Beau out of his car, and carry out the murder.
Jackie was later charged as a “co-author” — the Angolan legal term for someone who plans and enables a crime.
After months of proceedings, the verdict came this November.
According to international and local reports, Jackie Shroyer was convicted and sentenced to 24 years in prison for her role in her husband’s death.
Her co-defendant, Bernardino Elias, was also found guilty and received a similar sentence.
Both were ordered to pay restitution to Beau’s family.
Beau’s home church — Lakes Area Vineyard Church in Minnesota — said it followed the trial closely, describing it as “thorough, fair, and conducted with integrity.”

According to a statement from Lakes Area Vineyard Church, the Shroyer children continue to be well cared for.
The church says it’s working closely with SIM USA to ensure their ongoing care and support in the months ahead.
Even in the shadow of tragedy, the faith community continues to surround them with love and prayer.

Here’s the piece of evidence that left investigators stunned — and helped seal the case in court:
The murder weapon was a knife Beau had once given to his security guard — the same man later accused of helping orchestrate his death.
That chilling discovery became a haunting symbol of betrayal — the trust of a missionary turned against him.
