Michael Mosley, a TV doctor renowned for his appearances on This Morning and The One Show, went for a walk on Wednesday afternoon but did not come home.
A body has been found during the search for TV doctor Michael Mosley, who went missing on a Greek island.
The body was found near a cave complex beside Agia Marina on Symi, around 10 metres from the sea, and showed no signs of harm, according to Symi’s mayor, Lefteris Papakalodoukas.
Mr Papakalodoukas stated that he was in a boat with media members on their way to seek a cave when they noticed something on the rocks above the beach.
He said they filmed as they proceeded and then analyzed the footage from the cameras to see it was a body.
Separately, the mayor stated that the body appeared to have slid down a steep slope, colliding with a fence and lying face-up with a few rock on top of it.
According to a cameraman from state television ERT who was on the boat with the mayor, the body was holding a leather bag in one hand.
An umbrella is also said to have been found near the body.
A police spokesman, speaking on the condition of anonymity due to an ongoing investigation, stated that formal identification was pending.
A coroner from the bigger island of Rhodes will do an initial report on-site before removing the body, followed by a post-mortem to determine the cause of death.
The body was found on the opposite side of Saint Nicholas beach, where Mosley had left his wife and friends to go for a walk on Wednesday.
While a trek from the beach to the other side of the bay would ordinarily take around 15 minutes on foot, the recent extremely hot weather, with temperatures reaching over 40 degrees Celsius (104 degrees Fahrenheit), would have made the journey more difficult.
After the father of 4 failed to return home on Wednesday afternoon, an appeal was sent to a local Facebook group.
The presenter apparently set off for a walk from Saint Nikolas Beach at 1.30 PM local time but did not come home.
Mosley was then caught on many CCTV cameras walking through the village of Pedi, some 1.2 KM distant, and then at a yacht club in Marina Symi, farther around the island.
He had not been seen since.
His wife alerted authorities on Wednesday evening after he failed to return home.
Rescue teams were working under the assumption that he had mistakenly headed into the hills behind the marina.
His body was found with an umbrella, according to The Sun newspaper.
The doctor’s agent confirmed his disappearance to the PA news agency on Thursday.
