There are growing fears that Malawi Vice President Saulos Chilima died in a crash landing in Chikangawa forest.
This comes after his aircraft failed to land at Mzuzu Airport this morning.
According to Malawi24, Chilima boarded a Malawi Defence Force aircraft to attend the funeral of lawyer Ralph Kasambara.
However, the plane was unable to land at the airport owing to inclement weather.
The plane is thought to have crashed during its return flight.
According to sources, a crash was seen in the Chikangawa woodland region.
It is believed to be the plane carrying Chilima.
Government has confirmed that authorities have lost contact with the place since 10am.
Meanwhile, the government has stated that President Lazarus Chakwera has canceled his trip to the Bahamas due to the incident.
According to other reports, Chilima’s phone was last available about 10:30 AM Central Africa Time today.
The plane was expected to arrive in Lilongwe in about an hour after returning from Mzuzu.
