US Vice President Kamala Harris accepted CNN’s invitation to debate former President Donald Trump on October 23, challenging her rival to another public appearance in the final weeks of the campaign.
According to CNN, the debate would be similar to the first 2024 presidential debate in June between Trump and President Joe Biden, which will take place in the network’s Atlanta studios.
Trump said last week that he might be willing to participate in a third presidential debate after his September 10 clash with Harris, which was held by ABC in Philadelphia.
“Maybe if I got in the right mood,” he told reporters at a stop in California, after previously declaring on Truth Social, “THERE WILL BE NO THIRD DEBATE!”
CNN’s debate between Trump and Biden on June 27 was a watershed moment that altered the trajectory of the campaign.
Following a particularly dismal showing in the Atlanta debate, Biden dropped out of the campaign and endorsed Harris as the Democratic nominee.
In October, CNN offered the campaigns a format similar to the June debate, in which Trump and Harris would face moderator questions for 90 minutes without a live studio audience.
