Thousands of patriots sing of hope in Kaplan
Amid reports of progress in a new round of discussions with Hamas on a plan to retrieve hostages from Gaza, anti-government protestors assemble for protests marking the symbolic 9-month milestone of the October 7 onslaught.
As in previous weeks, thousands of protesters gathered across the country, from Amiad Junction in Galilee to Mitzpe Ramon in the Negev.
Most gatherings are likely to attract dozens or hundreds of protesters.
The major event is taking place on Kaplan Street in Tel Aviv, where tens of thousands of people join weekly anti-government protests on weekends.
Another huge one occurs near Jerusalem, Haifa, and Caesarea, outside Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s private residence.
Protest leaders say they will increase pressure on the government this week with a series of events beginning Sunday, including a demonstration outside the home of Arnon Bar-David, the head of the Histadrut labor union, demanding that the organization participate in protest actions.
In Tel Aviv, the anti-government march coincides with another weekly rally seeking the hostages’ release, which organizers claim is nonpartisan.
It frequently criticizes the government and demands that it accepts Hamas’ terms for a deal, which include a temporary cease-fire.
The Hostages and Missing Families Forum organized a gathering on Hostages Square, which drew thousands.
The subject of this week’s gathering on Hostage Square refers to the 9-month mark.
Organizers, who highlighted hostage siblings last week, say this week’s rally will focus on mothers, with speeches by Danielle Aloni, who was released from Hamas captivity after 49 days with her 6-year-old daughter Emilia, and Simona Steinbrecher, mother of Doron Steinbrecher, who was kidnapped by Hamas terrorists and taken to Gaza on October 7.
