Kerala Minister for Fisheries, Culture and Youth Affairs Minister Saji Cherian (Saji Cheriyan) slammed Christian priests on Dec. 31 for allegedly remaining silent on the Manipur violence during Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s Christmas program at his official residence in New Delhi.

The Kerala Catholic Bishops’ Council (KCBC) has slammed State Cultural Affairs Minister Saji Cherian for criticizing Christian priests for their alleged silence on the Manipur violence during Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s Christmas program at his official residence in New Delhi.

In response to the minister’s complaint that priests did not mention the Manipur violence issue with Modi at the Christmas program, the KCBC spokesperson Father Jacob Palackapilly stated that political parties should not dictate the political stance of Christians.

He questioned the ministers’ motivation for associating the Christian community’s participation in the Prime Minister’s event with a particular political allegiance.

Palackappilly explained that the Christmas program was a Prime Minister’s welcome to address the services offered by Christians in the country.

He recommended against taking a negative attitude on the problem and emphasized the involvement of Christian priests, particularly Bishops, as part of their commitment to the nation.
