CHRISTIAN BREAKING NEWS: Who is Musarrat Bibi? Christian Widow Loses Job and House after being Acquitted of a False Blasphemy Accusation in Pakistan [#MusarratBibi]
A Christian widow in Pakistan has been forced to leave her work and village due to threats to her life after being acquitted of a false blasphemy accusation, according to reports.
Musarrat Bibi and Muslim gardener Muhammad Sarmad were acquitted on Dec. 8 after being charged with desecrating Quranic pages while cleaning a storeroom at the Government Girls Higher Secondary School in 66-EB village, Arifwala tehsil, Pakpattan District, Punjab Province, on Apr. 15.
Bibi claimed she was suspended from work after being brought into police custody, but after being released on bail after nearly a month, the school administration refused to reinstate her position.
Bibi said she was unable to reclaim her work owing to the shame and risk associated with blasphemy allegations in the 96% Muslim country.
She worked as an office worker at the school and also ran a private store to supplement her income.
The poor Bibi claimed she was accused in the crime by a Muslim teacher called Muneera, who had a grudge against her because she refused to clean a toilet a few days prior to the alleged event.
On the day of the event, she was seated in her shop when the headmistress called her.
“When I entered the office, I saw that the room was filled with emotionally-charged staff members. As soon as the headmistress saw me, she screamed that I had hurt their religious sentiments by burning quranic pages. I had no idea of what she and the other teachers were accusing me of, but despite my repeated pleas, some teachers pushed me out in the open, where I was besieged by the students and local villagers.”

She began praying privately, asking Christ for the fortitude to face the false charge, she explained.
“Timely intervention of the police saved my life, otherwise God knows what they would have done to me.”

According to Bibi, the complainant in the case, Kashif Nadeem, is Muneera’s cousin and was the one who gathered the mob and labeled her as the major suspect.
Her counsel, Lazar Allah Rakha, stated that Arifwala Additional Sessions Judge Tariq Mahmood acquitted the widow of the accusation under Section 295-B of Pakistan’s blasphemy legislation, which carries a mandatory life sentence.
The judge accepted Allah Rakha’s contention that neither defendant had a purposeful desire to defile the pages of the Quran.
“The judge also noted the gaps in the police investigation, observing that there was no private witness against the duo, and that the school council had also admitted that the alleged act was not intentional.” – Allah Rakha
According to the prominent rights lawyer, Bibi’s case demonstrated how police lodged blasphemy charges in haste under crowd pressure, and how false allegations continue to haunt the innocent for the remainder of their lives.
In Muslim-majority Pakistan, bogus blasphemy claims frequently incite crowds to violence.
According to international and Pakistani rights groups, allegations of blasphemy are frequently used to frighten religious minorities and settle personal grudges.
The Pakistani government has long faced pressure to modify the country’s blasphemy laws, but other political groups have resisted.
