CHRISTIAN BREAKING NEWS: What’s Going On in Assam, India? Christian Schools Given 15-Day Ultimatum to Remove Christian Symbols [#ChristianSchool]

A group of Hindu hardliners in Assam state want priests, nuns, and brothers to quit wearing cassocks and religious habits.

A Hindu party has issued an ultimatum to Christian schools in India’s north-eastern Assam state to remove all Christian symbols, including religious habits and cassocks.

Satya Ranjan Borah, head of the Hindu organization Kutumba Surakshya Parishad (Family Safety Council), claimed the measure is intended to prevent Christian missionaries from accessing schools for conversion operations.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s pro-Hindu Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) rules Assam.

The organization wants the idols or photos of Jesus and Mary removed and has given Christian institutions a 15-day ultimatum to comply, failing which they warn of grave repercussions.

Borah said that they want priests, nuns, and brothers serving in Christian schools to quit wearing cassocks and religious habits on school grounds.

He accused them of promoting Christianity in schools through the display of such Christian symbols.

Archbishop John Moolachira of Guwahati stated that all of the claims “are baseless.”

Christians have been actively involved in education for several decades in Assam’s rural districts, where poor tribal people live.

However, as a precaution, they have requested that priests, nuns, and brothers wear civil Indian clothing on campuses.

According to Northeast Now, an English news portal, the Hindu organization also wants to demolish churches placed within school complexes.

Christian leaders said they want to approach Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, a BJP member.
