Ballarat Christian College in Victoria, Australia pressures teacher Rachel Colvin to resign for disagreeing with anti-marriage equality stance [#BallaratChristian #AntiMarriageEquality #Rachel Colvin]

A Victorian private school in Australia allegedly pressured a teacher to resign for personally disagreeing with the anti-marriage equality stance of the college, because of fears parents would pull their children out if they found out her true beliefs.

Rachel Colvin was an English teacher at Ballarat Christian College from 2008 until February 2019.

According to Rachel Colvin, Colvin, in August 2018, the school informed her she would no longer be offered certain teaching and professional development opportunities, despite her offer to keep silent about her personal support for same sex marriage.

She was required to attend counselling sessions with the head of teaching and school chaplain.

Israel Folau, a Tongan-Australian Christian athlete who was previously sacked by Rugby Australia (RA) for posting a Bible verse about salvation, was targeted again for his religious beliefs.

This time, the 30-year-old unrivaled rugby star was axed by fundraising platform GoFundMe after raising more than $760,000 in legal fees.

Folau was forced to end his rugby career in May 2019 with the Waratahs and Wallabies after posting a picture on Instagram saying “Hell awaits you!” with a list of sinners, including “homosexuals, adulterers, liars” and then said they must repent to Jesus to be saved.

Posting Bible verses and Christian messages is something the star rugby fullback had been doing on the platform since 2012. But that mid-April post was labeled anti-gay by RA, which found that he violated behavior standards “including respectful use of social media,” and said they have “no choice” but to sack him.

On April 10, 2019, Folau posted to more than 340,000 followers on Instagram, “Those that are living in Sin will end up in Hell unless you repent. Jesus Christ loves you and is giving you time to turn away from your sin and come to him.”

Quoting St. Paul’s letter to the Galatians, Folau posted, “Now the works of the flesh are manifest, which are these, adultery, fornication, uncleanness, lasciviousness, idolatry, witchcraft, hatred, variance, emulations, wrath, strife, seditions, heresies, envyings, murders, drunkenness, revelings, and such like: of the which I tell you before, as I have also told you in time past, that they which do such things shall not inherit the kingdom of God.” (Galatians KJV 5:19-21).

On April 11, 2019, Rugby Australia declared that it was aware of social media posts by Folau.

“The content within the post is unacceptable. It does not represent the values of the sport and is disrespectful to members of the Rugby community.”
