CHRISTIAN BREAKING NEWS: 🚨✝️ SHOCKWAVE: The Unexpected Death of Beloved PASTOR JEFF MEYERS (1973–2025)
The Christian community is reeling from the “shockwave” of the unexpected death of Pastor Jeff Meyers (1973–2025), the beloved Senior Pastor of First Baptist Church Opelika, Alabama.
Passing: Pastor Jeff Meyers passed away unexpectedly at the age of 52. The church announced the news on the night of December 4, 2025.
Legacy: He served faithfully at First Baptist Church Opelika since 2016. A respected scholar, he was known for his 30 years of preaching experience and for answering difficult spiritual questions through his weekly Bible study, “Ask Jeff.”
Family: He leaves behind his wife, Traci, and their three sons, Marshall, George, and Jonathan.
Church Response: The church staff and deacons released a statement expressing “deep grief” over the “tremendous loss,” while holding “tightly to the hope and promise of eternal life in Christ that Pastor Jeff preached so faithfully.” The community is urged to pray for his family and the congregation.
“This is a Christian headline that will stop you in your tracks. The shock is echoing across the nation.”
“Tonight… a beloved shepherd has laid down his staff. Unexpectedly.
The Gospel he preached still echoes… but now, his pulpit stands silent.
A church in mourning.
A community stunned.
And a powerful legacy that is echoing across the Christian world.
This is the life — and the untimely passing — of Pastor Jeff Meyers of First Baptist Church Opelika.”
“But what happened in the hours that followed… left an entire congregation in tears — and the ripple effect is reaching far beyond Opelika, Alabama. You need to hear this.”
Pastor Jeff Meyers, Senior Pastor of First Baptist Church Opelika, served faithfully since 2016.
A native of Desoto, Texas, Jeff was a true scholar, graduating from Baylor University, where he met his wife, Traci.
He went on to earn both his Master of Divinity with Biblical Languages and his PhD from Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary in Fort Worth.
With over 30 years of preaching experience, Jeff wasn’t just a preacher — he was a biblical explainer.
For more than 20 years, he answered people’s hardest spiritual questions through live events and especially through his weekly Bible study: “Ask Jeff.”
But on the night of December 4, 2025, the church made an announcement no one saw coming.
Pastor Jeff had passed away unexpectedly, at just 52 years old.
The church staff and deacons wrote, with deep grief:
“As a church family, we grieve this tremendous loss together — even as we hold tightly to the hope and promise of eternal life in Christ that Pastor Jeff preached so faithfully.”
Jeff leaves behind his wife Traci, and their three sons — Marshall, George, and Jonathan.
“For thousands, Pastor Jeff wasn’t just a preacher… He was the voice that met them in their doubts, their hardest questions, and their deepest spiritual struggles.
Now, with his loss, the questions about faith and suffering have only grown louder.”
“And here’s the immediate outpouring many Christians still can’t stop talking about…”
Before we go any further — pause with me.
Let’s pray for Traci, Marshall, George, and Jonathan.
Let’s pray for First Baptist Opelika.
And let’s ask God to surround every grieving heart with the comfort that only Christ can give.
“The Lord is near to the brokenhearted…” — Psalm 34:18

Dear FBCO Church Family,
It is with deep sadness that we share the news that our beloved Pastor Jeff Meyers went home to be with the Lord last night. As a church family, we grieve this tremendous loss together, even as we hold tightly to the hope and promise of eternal life in Christ that Pastor Jeff preached so faithfully.
Pastor Jeff served our church with unwavering devotion, compassion, and humility. His love for God and for people was evident in every sermon he preached, every prayer he prayed, and every conversation he shared. His absence will be deeply felt, yet his legacy of faithfulness and love will continue to shape our community for years to come.
Please join us in praying for his family—prayers for comfort, peace, and strength during this incredibly difficult time. We also ask that you respect their privacy as they grieve and make necessary arrangements.
Information about services and opportunities for our church family to gather, remember, and support one another will be shared as soon as details are available.
In the meantime, may we lean on one another, reflect on the hope we have in Christ, and trust in God’s nearness to the brokenhearted.
“The Lord is nigh unto them that are of a broken heart; and saveth such as be of a contrite spirit. — Psalm 34:18
